Creativity and Astrology: Libra
Align Your Creativity with the Astrological Energy of Libra
The moon is constantly changing, from the dark new moon to the shining full moon and back again. The moon’s movement through the astrological signs is equally changeable, moving every few days. For astrologers, the Moon represents our deepest emotional needs, sometimes buried deep in the subconscious mind. Each sign carries its unique energetic signature, shaping our emotional landscape while providing unique opportunities for self-reflection and growth.
Engaging in creative activities provides access to our emotions, while also encouraging self-development and promoting personal growth. By aligning your creativity with the astrological signs, you can draw on the specific energies of each sign to enrich your artistic expression and deepen your understanding of yourself.
One of the easiest thoughts from astrology to grasp, which is also part of the pagan worldview, is the belief that the new moon brings a seed moment, a time for renewal and growth. So what better time to start a new creative project than when the moon is new? And the Libra new moon is must around the corner on Tuesday, Oct 21, 2025.
But don’t feel limited by the new moon’s timing. You may feel drawn to a zodiac sign at other times, like when the sun is in that sign or if you have personal planetary placements that resonate with that sign.
Libra New Moon—Tuesday October 21, 2025
Libra, an air sign ruled by Venus, is known for its emphasis on balance, harmony, and relationships. The scales of justice are the symbol for Libra. With Venus as its ruling planet, it’s no surprise that Libra energy embodies diplomacy, charm and a strong aesthetic sensibility. In addition to Libra’s attraction to beauty and art, Libra energy embodies collaborations, fairness and justice, and a sense of equilibrium. Overall, it encourages cooperation, open-mindedness, and a quest for harmony in both personal and communal spaces.
Libra’s symbol, the scales, have their origins in the Greek myth of Themis, Goddess of Law and Justice. The Goddess Themis is ancient, being part of the first Greek pantheon—the Titans, who ruled during the Golden Age, a time of peace. She was one of the first twelve Titans and a direct descendant of Gaea, the first divine being and creator of all the gods.
Themis ruled over fair laws—laws of the gods, laws of human nature and laws made by humans. She is depicted in two main ways:
holding a scale, symbolizing justice and balance
holding a sword, representing her ability to separate the truth from the lies
Themis was the Oracle of Delphi before it was taken over by Apollo. This highlights both her prophetic nature and her deep connection to divine law.
Other goddesses who can be associated with Libra’s qualities include:
Maat, Egyptian Goddess of Truth and Justice who represented truth, justice, harmony, and balance. She gave order to nature and society. Her symbols are the scales and an ostrich feather, representing truth and balance.
Inanna, Sumerian Goddess of Love, Beauty, War, and Justice embodies all the qualities of Libra. She is credited with obtaining the sacred “Me” from Enki, God of Wisdom and bringing to her people. These gifts of civilization included divine powers representing fundamental aspects of civilization, such as kingship, music, law, craftsmanship and social conduct. Her dual nature is seen in her depiction as Goddess of Love and Fertility, inspiring passionate relationships and recognizing the beauty of connection, and as a War Goddess who wielded weapons and engaged in battles. This duality within Inanna represents balance. Her symbols are the lion, the eight-pointed star, the ankh, and the staff.
Aphrodite, Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty and Venus, Roman Goddesses of Love and Beauty who derives from Aphrodite and whose name the planet Venus bears. They both rule the realm of love and inspire the sweetness of passion in all living things. Both goddesses possess enchanting charm, grace and are symbolic of fertility and prosperity. Aphrodite’s and Venus’s symbols include the seashell and the dove.
Aine, Celtic Goddess of Love, Fertility, and so much more, is known for teaching her human children about love, both by taking human men as lovers and by teaching humans how to express their love in a sacred manner. She gave birth to many children through her love of mortal men, creating what some believe to be a magical Faerie-Human race. Aine is symbolized by the sun.
Your Libra Creative Project
Create a painting, drawing, collage, poem, short story, song, dance, performance piece, or whatever form you might like that embodies the essence of Libra. Here are some suggestions for you to draw on while considering the Libra qualities of balance, harmony, justice, relationships and beauty.
Visual Art
Best colors: blue (a soothing color) pink, white and beige. Libra energy does not call for intense colors. To best express Libra energy use light colors in the pastel range.
Balance and Harmony
A mirrored image, which incorporates an image that then is repeated as a mirror of the first, creates a sense of visual balance. Think of M.C. Escher’s piece, “Sky and Water I.” The top half of the artwork features birds flying in the sky, while the bottom half mirrors this with fish swimming in water.
Create a nature-inspired art piece. Incorporate elements from different ecosystems (forests, oceans, deserts) to symbolize harmony and the interconnectedness of nature.
I got a little carried away creating these prompts for working with Libra energy. In addition to other suggestions for visual art, I have put together some prompts for literary and performing arts, plus a couple of non-tradition creativity possibilities to consider.
Here’s one of the suggestions for Literary Arts:
Write about justice and/or the balance between personal freedom and social well-being. You might include one of the metaphors suggested, such as a bridge, providing a calm space to cross over rough waters.
